VR Games 2020: You can look forward to these games

Half-Life: Alyx

In March, Valve releases the first full-fledged half-life game since 2007 - and it's been designed from the ground up for Virtual Reality!

Half-Life: Alyx is a prequel to Half-Life 2, playing between the events of Half-Life and its successor. You slip into the role of the powerful scientist Alyx Vance, who fights against the Combine at her father's side.

Iron Man VR

platforms: Playstation VR
Release date: February 28, 2020

If it depends on the developers, you should be in this PSVRExclusive title feel like the legendary superhero itself. In particular, the Iron Man flying and fighting is very well implemented: With the Move controllers you control the free moving nozzles of the superhero, which feels natural and a lot of fun.

Lone Echo 2

platforms: Oculus Rift (S)
Release date: 2020

Lone echo is one of the best VR games at all. The greater the expectations for the sequel.

At the end of the first part, the main characters Olivia Rhodes and the robot Jack woke up again in a strange spaceship near the Saturn rings, but 400 years into the future. Lone Echo 2 picks up this thread: In the new game, you explore the spaceship and look for a way past the dangerous biomass of the first part. In the process, one gradually learns what has happened and what has triggered the time jump.

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond

For several years, the AAA developer Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall, Apex Legends) secretly worked on this exclusive Rift title. On the Oculus Connect 6 was Medal of Honor: Above and beyond announced, To the joyful surprise of older shooter fans, it revives the legendary Medal of Honor brand.

In the game you fight on the side of the French resistance against Nazis. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond offers a full-fledged single-player campaign and multiplayer modes to give your friends a punch.

The largest project so far by Vertigo Games (Arizona Sunshine, Skyworld) kidnaps players in a historically alternative Los Angeles in 2005. Mankind is badly shaken: A designer drug has turned a large part of the earth's population into monsters, also a new ice age has dawned.

In After The Fall close up to four VR users together and fight with some self-made weapons against ice monster. The developers promise a cinematic story, action-packed battles for a single or multi-player and a dynamic game world that is animate permanently to play. 80s fans are allowed over numerous allusions to this decade looking forward.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Release date: January 23, 2020

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners plays in the remnants of New Orleans, three years after the outbreak of the Zombie Search. Players explore the devastated city in search of a mysterious organization and defend themselves against undead with self-made weapons.

The campaign should be around 15 hours long and as in Walking-Dead games (Amazon link) are usually interspersed with decisions that affect the fate of the survivors and the entire city.

 

The Wizards: Dark Times

platforms: HTC Vive (Pro), Oculus Rift (S), Windows MR, later also Oculus Quest
Release date: Q1 2020

The successor of The Wizards should become more than a glorified magic wave shooter. The developers try this time with a correct action and a deeper game mechanics.

Low-Fi

platforms: HTC Vive (Pro), Oculus Rift (S), Valve Index, Windows MR
Release date: 2020

Low-Fi is the spiritual successor to the VR game Techno lust and like this one from Cyberpunk and this particular Blade Runner (Amazon link) inspired. You assume the role of a police officer responsible for overseeing a futuristic city. The reminds strongly of the Los Angeles of the Ridley Scott film.

One of mine tried out early version of low-Fi shines through impressive scenery and environments, but still lacks playful elements. The game was recently successfully funded by Kickstarter and should close this gap over the next year.

The Walking Dead: Onslaught

platforms: PC-VR, Playstation VR
Release date: First Quarter 2020

Yes, that's right: In 2020, a walking-dead game with official license will be released.

"Onslaught" is developed by the VR success studio Survios (Raw Data, Creed: Rise to Glory (Test), West World Awakening). You slip into the role of characters from the TV series and experience a completely new story.

The focus is on the zombie action. Thanks to a specially developed combat system, it should be possible to assassinate zombies as realistically as ever.

Paper Beast

platforms: Playstation VR
Release date: First Quarter 2020

In Paper Beast you explore an ecosystem of alien landscapes and creatures. There are no lyrics or dialogues, so that the player can fully engage with the game world and its peculiar laws. One of the most unusual VR titles so far.

Pixel Ripped 1995

platforms: HTC Vive (Pro), Oculus Rift (S), Oculus Quest, Valve Index, Windows MR
Release date: 2020

The predecessor Pixel Ripped 1989 (test) offers an unforgettable journey back to the Gameboy era. In the successor, we instead see the transition between 16-bit consoles and the beginning of the 3D era of video games.

firmament

platforms: HTC Vive (Pro), Oculus Rift (S), Valve Index, Windows MR, Playstation VR
Release date: July 2020 (for Kickstarter supporters)

The Myst makers and developers of the VR game Autopsy sign up with a new Steampunk style VR title. In the firmament, players use a spherical, mechanical companion to visit and explore a series of fantastic worlds while solving intricate puzzles.
